Background

Boys & Girls Clubs of Western Pennsylvania operates after-school and summer programming out of eight sites throughout Western Pennsylvania. Their goal is to provide every child with the essential tools needed for a successful and bright future. Since founded in 1888, the vision of Boys & Girls Clubs has grown and changed with the needs of their children. ReadyAI worked with the Lawrenceville and Carnegie location.

Details

At the Lawrenceville location, ReadyAI worked with a supervisor of the programs, as well as two part-time volunteers, to develop basic outlines of their training sessions. Prior to WAICY, the club hosted a one-day session for about 24 students. Students from both the Carnegie and the Lawrenceville location participated. Among the 24 students, about 15 expressed interest in learning the curriculum after the session.

The club then continued to teach ReadyAI’s program in both locations. The total instruction time was about 8-12 hours. Students were paired during the sessions. The sessions were run by part-time teachers at both locations.

On July 28th, 2018, a total of 9 students participated in the final competition. They demonstrated projects as three teams.
